Refurb-a-Sash know that the technical jargon in our industry can be confusing, so here’s a quick guide to some of the terms our experts use.
Limit Stops
Limit stops prevent a window from opening beyond 100mm, which is particularly useful for bedrooms. These can range from a simple nail or screw bolt going through both sashes, to wrap around locks or plastic spring loaded catches. A limit stop reduces wear on brush piles and prevents draughts for years to come.
Tilt Restrictor
tilt restrictors are metal side arms made from stainless steel, that allow sliding sashes to be tilted for safe cleaning. With sashes often weighing over 40lbs in weight it is vital that a pair of stays are fitted to each sash, both top, and bottom to ensure they are safe to use.
Cill Pads
A cill pad is designed to prevent moisture from entering your home through your windows. The foam pads are placed between the frame and the cill sections and are compressed when the two are screwed together, creating an effective barrier against moisture.
Foam Baffles
A foam baffle is designed to ensure that your window is able to withstand the full weight of its glass and to prevent movement in windy conditions, plus provides a durable fixing for handles and latches.
