I have always been fascinated by where the Douglas Fir timber we use in our Refurb-a-Sash windows and doors comes from.
Where does the timber for our windows & doors come from?
Recently I was on holiday in Canada and took a road trip through rural British Columbia and was surprised by the sheer amount of logging trucks on the roads. From mighty semi-tractor trailers with over 30 wheels to smaller pickup truck styles, there were logging trucks everywhere! It’s easy to see why the logging industry is huge in Canada, with major national companies and smaller independent firms alike.
Logging trucks specialize in hauling freshly cut logs, transporting them from narrow forest tracks via highways to sawmills and other processing facilities. These trucks have distinct features such as gigantic tires, powerful brakes, and special body designs that enable them to move heavy and awkward loads without getting stuck. Even more impressive is the fact that some logging truck drivers are able to navigate up and down treacherous terrain and steep inclines! Canada’s logging industry will no doubt continue to depend heavily on sophisticated logging trucks for a long time to come.
